Overview 

The NDC Partnership is seeking a dynamic communications professional to assist in implementation of the communications strategy of the Partnership’s Support Unit. In this position. you will both proactively plan and implement ambitious and comprehensive communications strategies as well as regular interaction with member countries and institutions on specific communications activities and opportunities. You will be responsible for helping to implement the NDC Partnership's comprehensive Communications Strategy for the overall reputation of the Partnership, including press, digital, social media and multimedia activities, as well as provide support for events, workshops and presentations. You will also help to develop and facilitate translation and design of a suite of marketing materials.

Following the landmark Paris Agreement, countries are implementing their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for climate action. The NDC Partnership is a coalition of governments and international institutions working together to ensure countries receive the technical and financial support they need to achieve ambitious climate and sustainable development targets as fast and effectively as possible. The Partnership will help countries meet and exceed their commitments by facilitating access to tools, expertise, finance, best practices and other resources. The Partnership seeks a highly knowledgeable communications professional to execute smart strategies that support and extend the NDC Partnership's influence, media coverage and online presence,

The successful candidate for this Communications and Marketing Associate position will be a self-starter with a strong track record of communicating complex and diverse projects under tight time lines through a wide range of strategies and tactics. You should have excellent copy writing skills, be very organized and diligent and be passionate about tackling climate change and enhancing sustainable development in countries across the globe.

Responsibilities

Your main areas of responsibility will include the following:

  • Develop and execute strategic communications plans to support high-priority initiatives, media placements and speaking engagements, working collaboratively with staff across the NDC Partnership to identify such opportunities and highlight the appropriate research, analysis, tools and experts
  • Lead development of communications materials that amplify examples of countries taking early and ambitious actions to implement their national climate plans under the Paris Agreement with support from the NDC Partnership
  • Build and foster collaborative relationships with communications experts among key NDC Partnership stakeholders to encourage global communications efforts around common messages and activities
  • Lead development of communications materials related to an emerging partnership, including its website, messaging, talking points, PowerPoint slides, infographics and print materials
  • Manage design and layout of communications materials, including through collaboration with external vendors
  • Work with communications and research experts to oversee efficient execution of processes regarding publications, knowledge tools and communications activities
  • Develop and execute creative ways to translate climate actions into compelling storylines, including through multimedia online content, such as videos, photos and infographics
  • Aid in pitching stories and responding to media inquiries related to NDC Partnership activities on both global and national levels
  • Write and edit material including blog posts, op-eds, e-blasts and other compelling communications that serve to translate technical material for various audiences.
  • Support the NDC Partnership’s social media strategy and channels
  • Regularly track and evaluate metrics of success, and help adapt strategies to grow and improve results over time 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations or environmental studies
  • Minimum 5 years of full time relevant professional experience working in public relations or communications; a salient link to climate, environmental or development issues strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to lead the planning, coordination and execution of communications products, influence strategies and audience targeting
  • Demonstrated experience with communications planning, publications development, marketing, social media and other specialized communications skills
  • Strong communications skills and ability to produce materials focused on diverse external audiences
  • Articulate, versatile, highly-skilled writer with professional writing experience; strong oral communications skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced office environment, both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent inter-personal communications skills, including the ability to encourage collaboration with other programs, international offices and partners
  • Highly motivated, proactive work style and excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to think creatively and collaboratively about all elements of communications work
  • Adaptable to rapidly changing priorities and able to manage multiple deadlines and deliver high quality work products
  • Proven ability to lead the planning, coordination and execution of communications products, influence strategies and audience targeting
  • A proven track record of searching for and implementing innovative approaches focused on achieving results or amplifying impact
  • Experience working with reporters or members of the media preferred
  • International experience or prior work on global issues; language skills, especially in French or Spanish, preferred
  • Strong commitment to WRI's mission and values
